Class Times & Supervision
During the months of September through May, classes are offered from:
9:15am-10:30am for Nursery-5th Grade
11:15am-12:30pm for Nursery–12th Grade.
(Summer Program)
Children may be dropped off as early as 9am for the first session and 11am for the second session. Exceptions are made for teachers or volunteers who need to arrive earlier. Children should be picked up promptly at 10:30am for the first session or 12:30pm for the second session.
Children must be supervised on the playground as well as before and after classes, and any other time the family may be at church. Parents are expected to know where their children are at all times and to enforce appropriate behavior throughout the church building.
Snack Guidelines
We have two options (Goldfish and Pretzels) for snacks which are nutritionist-approved for our Religious Education Program. The approved beverage, according to our guidelines, is water.
If a child requires a snack other than the two approved options, then the parent of that child may provide an individually prepared, non-sugary snack for that child only. The snack must be prepared by the parent for the individual student before class begins, and the student can give the snack to her/his teachers for distribution at the appropriate time.
On occasion, a special snack will be offered by the teachers for curriculum purposes. Parents will be notified about special snack days, and if the parent would like his/her child to have an individualized snack for whatever reason, the parent may provide an individually prepared snack for his/her child. If the child is in sixth grade or older, he/she is allowed to eat a special snack offered by his/her teachers for curriculum purposes without parental permission beforehand.
If a potentially life-threatening allergy exists, the parent or guardian is responsible for informing the DRE about his/her child’s allergy.
Play Areas for Children
We are pleased to have a fenced play area outside for active play before and after the service. Adult supervision is necessary, and children are not allowed on the playground unsupervised. When using the outside play area remember that:
1) Any hitting, pushing or rough housing is unacceptable.
2) Outside play toys should be put away after use.
3) The sandbox should be covered after use.
4) Gates should be used and closed after use; do not climb over the fences.
5) Dogs on the playground can cause safety risks to young children and must remain outside the gates.
Religious Education Space Guidelines
We have many people in our religious education space each week, and we must all be respectful of each other and of our spaces during these busy times. Please remember that:
1) Participants need to be considerate of each other and listen when others are speaking; indoor voices are to be used while in the building.
2) Everyone must move carefully in our space without running or use of outdoor equipment such as roller blades, bicycles, balls, frisbees, etc.
3) During class sessions, children must participate in Religious Education class activities, join their parents in the service, or be under their parent's direct supervision.
4) A supervised "time out" will be used by the Religious Education teachers or the Religious Education staff in situations when a child is being disruptive to the group. Parents will be notified of their child's behavior, so that parents and Religious Education staff may find ways to work together with the child in constructive ways.
5) To keep our Supply Closet orderly, it will be padlocked with a key available during Religious Education class sessions and Parent’s Night Out. An adult will be available to unlock the closet if supplies are needed.
6) Each person is responsible for washing any dishes used downstairs and for returning coffee cups to the upstairs kitchen.
7) Please make sure that children pick up any toys or games they have used and that you gather all personal belongings and trash before leaving the Religious Education space.
