There are a lot of interesting groups and activities to get involved with at UUCA. The following list includes most of our groups, many of which do not require membership to attend. Group meetings are scheduled on the church Calendar and in our UUCA monthly Newsletter, which also contains contact information for each group. If you don’t see a topic of interest, please contact the church Administrator to see how you can start a group!
Coming of Middle Age (formerly Young Adults) (Adam Griffith)
Age centered (18-35), not age exclusive. Open to singles, and couples with or without children, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or race. We meet for Sunday brunch on the first Sunday of the month, gather for potlucks at each other's homes, and organize outings for the group.
Dinners for Eight (Ann Bury)
In August of each year, couples (or two singles) sign up to participate in four potluck dinners held in homes during the coming year. Each couple hosts one of the four dinners and will have an opportunity to dine with different couples each time.
Fibre Friends (Maurie McClure)
This group of handworkers meets on the first Saturday of the month, usually in Sandburg Hall. They make hats, scarves, blankets and more for donation to Room in the Inn, Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. Bring favorite patterns and yarn to share for knitting, crochet, or any of your current projects.
Hiking Group (Sue Ellen Miller)
A monthly hiking group for adults and youth who enjoy a variety of hikes. Hikes alternate between easy and more challenging. Starting times vary with season and hike length. Longer hikes start at 9 AM and shorter hikes at 10 AM. We carpool from Jefferson House on the third Saturday of the month.
Men’s Breakfast Group (Charlie St. Clair)
Monthly meeting for heart-felt discussions. All men are welcome and bring a breakfast item to share.
Men’s Discussion Group (Hal Hogstrom)
This open discussion for all men focuses on theological themes.
Parents' Night Out (George Riedesel)
This is a group of RE/Member/Friend parents who take turns providing childcare for each other in order to allow couples to have a "date" night out. Registration is required. This is a closed group. Please contact the office for more information at Information@UUAsheville.org.
RestauranTours III (Dane & Cynthia Barrager)
We have RestauranTours groups who meet in each other’s homes for wine and cheese before going out for dinner together. Groups I & II are now closed to new members. New groups are formed as demand requires.
RestauranTours IV (Iris Williams)
We have RestauranTours groups who meet in each other’s homes for wine and cheese before going out for dinner together. Groups I & II are now closed to new members. New groups are formed as demand requires. This group is primarily vegetarian-oriented.
