Lenora Thom has graciously offered this space to the Music Committee this month. The team of Ellis & Jump (Committee co-chairs Mike Ellis and Laura Jump) are going gangbusters helping to create a musical show for the delectation and amazement of the UUCA congregation, premiering Saturday evening, March 12 at 6:30 PM.
It all started when the Annual Budget Drive Team invited us to invent and coordinate entertainment for The Big Event, a gala evening, complete with wine and appetizers, amusing entertainment, coffee and dessert. Now titled, “Step Up, Step Out!” in keeping with this year’s campaign theme, the Big Event will include an original musical called “UUs at the Edge of Tomorrow!” Hatched out of our brainstorming minds, by performance time, it will include brilliant input from the cast as well. The creative spirit lives at UUCA!
The characters include our heroine, Alice, a UU secretary by day, and aspiring singer by night, played by Nana Hosmer; Super UU Man, Julian Ferris; 7 Principles Woman, DiAnna Ritola; 2UPO, Jesse Lee; Money Maloney, Connie Schrader; and Rev. Mark Ward, as himself!
Our Emcee is Mike Ellis. Other supporting cast will round out the production, along with a super ensemble made up of choir members. Melissa Himelein is our intrepid accompanist. DiAnna Ritola directs the cast. Betsie Stockslager choreographs, and Laura Jump directs the music. Lenora Thom provides special behind-the-scenes coaching, and Christine Grant is production coordinator. You’ll hear two original songs, plus a bravura performance of a bewitching song from a well-known Broadway musical – but you’ll have to be there to find out which one!
Don’t miss it! Dress in your evening-out attire, and plan to gather with like-minded, humor-hungry fellow UUs. It’s time to play, sing, and celebrate what makes UUs great. Together, we’ve got what it takes to build the UUCA future. Step Out for a great evening and Step Up to support UUCA!
