Music Director
May 2011
Our Intergenerational Choir recently concluded another superb year of music-making, singing at two services on Earth Day, April 17. Featured were soloists Bohème Dessereau, Hazel Grotenhuis, Emma Himelein-Wachowiak, Kenzie Himelein-Wachowiak, Isabel Horak, and Karen Mason. All did an excellent job! Morgen Cobb offered his formidable percussion talents once again, and we also welcomed young Corey McDonough on violin. This group just gets better and better, and I thank them so much for their marvelous efforts! We will resume in the fall, and I welcome new members into this truly multi-generational group. Look for a notice from me in the September newsletter.
Meanwhile, our Adult Choir is hard at work as usual, providing outstanding music on most Sundays of the year. Many of the choir members have done “double-duty” on numerous occasions, and I am proud that we have provided vocal music at every single 9:15 service all season. We are coming into the final few weeks of the year, and will conclude on “Choir Sunday” before taking our summer break. The date is June 5, the start of the summer season, so there is only one service at 10 AM.
I am as excited as I can be about this year’s program! I am calling it “This Moment – An Ordinary Day,” and it is my take on the magic found “in the moment” of a simple day. Some of the titles I have selected are “The Place Called Morning” (text by Emily Dickinson); “Afternoon on a Hill” (Edna St. Vincent Millay); “And in the Evening” (William Blake); “The Pasture” (Robert Frost); and “The Silence Speaks” (Marguerite Wiele), to name just a few. Noted composers include Z. Randall Stroope, David Brunner, Stephen Sondheim, and our very own Laura Halfvarson Jump. Please don’t miss this excellent presentation by your UUCA Adult Choir!
