Music Director
May 2010
The Adult Choir is hard at work on some wonderful music with which to end the season. They will appear at both services on May 9, our 60th Anniversary Sunday, presenting two stirring anthems with guest percussionist Allijah Motikas. Their final Sunday will be Choir Sunday, June 6. The program will include beautiful settings of poetry by Emily Dickinson, Christopher Marlowe, Sara Teasdale, Mark Twain, Gil Vincente and others. A special treat will be the world premiere of “Watershed,” a stunningly beautiful piece by none other than our resident composer, Laura Jump. In the March 2010 issue of UUCA Connections, I announced that Laura won the National UUA Hymn Writing Contest, and she has composed the music and poetry for this extraordinary 7-minute work. I am thrilled to be presenting this program with our fabulous choir, and hope you will attend.
The Intergenerational Choir wrapped up their season on Apr. 25 with great music for Earth Day. I thank them for their excellent work this year. We will look forward to gearing up again in late September. If you’d like to participate next year, please let me know NOW so I can get you onto all lists and keep you in the loop. Email me at

Finally, our MUUsic in the Afternoon concert series also finished its season on Apr. 25 with a fascinating program by mime Lavinia Plonka. Thanks to the UUCA Music Committee for their hard work on these concerts: Co-chairs Mike Ellis and Laura Jump, and Members Dennis Campbell, Elin Cotts, Joan Fleisig, Beth Gage and Suzanne Williams. Look later this summer for news of next year’s offerings.
