Lenora Thom

Music Director

January 2010

Kudos to the Music Committee for mounting an excellent effort to purchase the hymnal supplement, Singing the Journey. Co-chairs Laura Jump and Mike Ellis, with help from Dennis Campbell, Elin Cotts, Joan Fleisig, Beth Gage, Suzanne Williams and other choir members, have worked hard to bring us close to our goal. Sunday, Dec. 20, is your last chance to participate in this drive. For just $15, you can “gift” this much-needed resource to the church. Stop by our table in Sandburg Hall for more information. Let’s make this a success so we can start “singing the journey!”

Christmas Eve will bring lovely music from both the Intergenerational (IG) & Adult Choirs. The IG Choir will sing several anthems, participate in the pageant and lead carols at the 4 PM family service. At the 9 PM service, the Adult Choir will present tender and beautiful pieces to complement Mark’s theme of “quiet wonder.”

In January, MUUsic in the Afternoon, our concert series, begins at 4 PM on Sunday, Jan. 31 with Martin Hargrove, a noted bass-baritone, who will perform a program of American art songs with Scott Ward, pianist. These guys have phenomenal talent and the program is sure to delight. The Music Committee will host this one-hour concert, followed by a reception ($10 admission).

We in the UUCA Music Program – some 80+ (!) singers, Music Committee members, and I – wish you and yours a beautiful, safe, and meaningful holiday season.
