Joy!
by Maggie Barton
Come, beckons joy,
Come and be with me,
Do not forget that I am ever present.
Lift up your head and see.
Break out of your chains, reach and connect with my abundant energy,
For it is within your merging that you become part of Divine creation,
This wondrous, mysterious aliveness!
You limit yourself with self-confining,
Confined by your parents, society and then, alas, by yourself.
Your ego judges and becomes your cell; there you stay until you die,
Trapped and, sadly, not even knowing.
I challenge you to take this key I give you,
The key to your cell,
For your door is there merely to be opened.
Just trust me,
Because, as you open your door, life becomes yours.
Trust and see:
As you venture outside into life’s magic garden
You truly become a child of God.
By acknowledging that, you are in turn acknowledged, and you flow
Ever so beautifully into wondrous, mysterious aliveness.
So, allow the Creator to direct your journey
home.
Please don’t fear, it abounds with treasures that I provide you.
Open your eyes and see,
See for yourself!
See creative treasures, compassionate treasures, sharing and knowing treasures
--
Mostly the knowing treasure that as you unfold, you expand within Creation’s
unfolding,
Spiraling upward, returning home.
This poem expresses the encouragement of spiritual growth in UU congregations, and reflects my own spiritual journey and arrival at a deep awareness of our human potential for a life of joy. (3)
