Lenora Thom

Music Director

April 2009

An ongoing project for the uuca music committee is the purchase of additional hymnals for the sanctuary. Through the years, many Members have donated hymnals. We own approximately 275 copies of the main (grey) hymnal, Singing the Living Tradition, but we need at least 50 more. (Long-term, we hope to purchase the new, smaller supplement entitled Singing the Journey, but the pressing need is for more copies of the grey hymnal, especially as our numbers continue to grow.) Singing the Living Tradition lists for $28, so for a donation of just $30, you can purchase a hymnal and cover shipping charges as well. Every extra copy will benefit our Sunday worship services, so won’t you consider this gift? You will be acknowledged in the front of each hymnal that you purchase. If you are interested in participating in this effort, you can contact me at MusicDirector@UUAsheville.org, or Music Committee Chair Joan Fleisig.

“MUUsic in the Afternoon” will present its final concert of the season on Sunday, Apr. 5 at 4 PM. Irish Soprano Anne O’Byrne will perform an impressive variety of music, including art songs, operatic arias, Irish folk songs, and music by Porter and Gershwin. Anne will be accompanied by her husband David Fisk, an accomplished and dynamic pianist. Click here for more information. I hope you will attend this marvelous 1-hour program, followed by a Music Committee-sponsored reception, with a suggested donation of only $10.

Also, the IG Choir will make their final Sunday appearance on May 17. Rehearsals will be on just three Sundays from 12:30-1:15 PM, 4/26, 5/3 and 5/10. If you are planning to participate, or need more information, please email me at the above address. The more the merrier!
