Lenora Thom

Music Director

May 2008

It’s another very busy time for the UUCA Music Program! First, on Sunday, May 4, MUUsic in the Afternoon, our newly-formed concert series, presents the third and final program for this season. “A Concert of Chamber MUUsic” will occur at 4pm, followed by a reception sponsored and hosted by the UUCA Music Committee.  Guest artists will be Michael Brubaker, horn and recorder; Alicia Chapman, oboe; Amy Cherry, trumpet; Eric Koontz, viola; with me accompanying on both piano and organ. This program (about which I’m SOOO excited!) will include works by G. P. Telemann, Eric Erwazen, Anthony Plog, Charles Loeffler and Edvard Grieg – some beautiful and fascinating pieces, an array of styles, periods, and many instrumental colors. The one-hour program, with reception, is offered at a suggested donation of only $10!

Next, on Sunday, May 11, the Intergenerational Choir will make their final appearance for the season at the “RE Sunday” service, 10am. Some great music will be featured by this growing and talented group. I hope many of you can attend this as well. Please come and support the RE Program and IG Choir in this important service!

Then, on June 8, the Adult Choir will offer what has come to be known as “Choir Sunday”: a music-intensive, end-of-season presentation by this fabulous group. I’m calling it “An die Musik” (“To Music”), and it will include multiple works about the importance of music in our lives. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music (based on texts of Shakespeare) and Gwyneth Walker’s haunting Dreamers of Dreams (from Arthur O’Shaughnessy’s famous ode “The Music Makers) are just two of the cornerstone pieces you will hear in this varied and moving program. Plan to attend!
