Lenora Thom

Music Director

November 2008

By the time you read this, many of you will have seen me hobbling around in a walking cast. I suffered a stress fracture in my left foot, the result of being an over-eager runner! I discovered running four years ago and have been an avid fan of exercise ever since. So the biggest “bummer” in all of this is not being able to run! And I’ve had to come up with creative ways to play the organ “sans feet,” which has been challenging, to say the least. At any rate, also by the time you read this, I will be more than half way through my recuperation process and hopefully well on the mend. Thanks to so many for your words of encouragement.

The Intergenerational Choir has gotten off to a smashing start, with over 30 wonderful singers participating! At both services on Nov. 2, we will recognize Día de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead), a holidaycelebrated mainly in Mexico which focuses on remembering friends and relatives who have died. Our anthems – “Oye la Musica” and “El Dia de los Muertos” – will be sung mostly in Spanish and will be both celebratory and reflective.

One more note – it turns out that the best dates for our concert series have again fallen in the spring, so I will have more information on “MUUsic in the Afternoon” for you next month!
